BurnsWhite faced significant challenges in measuring, tracking, and optimizing profitability across the organization. One of the key issues was data fragmentation as information was scattered across multiple relational database systems and flat files, making consolidation difficult. BurnsWhite used ProLaw, a comprehensive enterprise resource planning (ERP) system designed specifically for legal professionals. Additionally, the team relied on basic, non-customizable reports from the ProLaw system which were inadequate for operational decision-making. Due to the limitations of ProLaw’s native reporting, data was often exported to Excel for further manipulation, leading to inefficiencies, delays, and risks of data integrity issues. Without a comprehensive view of budgets, costs, fees, invoices, and payments, it was challenging to determine profitability accuracy. Furthermore, ProLaw’s limited access controls and difficulty handling large datasets hindered effective data utilization and decision-making.
